Isn't there anything to find on your partners blog - things she likes?
I know that mine is fond of scarfs ... so I won't knit a cap ;-)
how about knitting gloves, socks, fingerless mittens? or sewing something like a little bag, or pincushion, or bookmark?
My partner likes owls, so I am thinking about making an owl for one thing. Other thoughts are a scarf, mittens, christmas ornaments, etc. There is a great book out right now called Knit Noel. It has lots of great projects in it.

I made notes of your ideas and then browsed Ravelry and dragged out some of my books before finally casting on for a bag.
